In late game, when the cowboy has access to the higher damage weapons of T4 the effect of attack speed on DPS becomes unmatched by damage and DPS will be essential for the challenge events like Canyon Trials or Spirit Cave. However, after the recent update(0.17.0) stones and ores are mainly found from mines where spirit can't help much and in such case, damage or attack speed had increased in priority. In mid game, when the cowboy has access to T2 or T3 weapons, points in spirit help most since at this stage the cowboy usually need to grind for resources for various tasks. Moreover, with higher damage stats, the weapons can kill enemy with fewer hits so that the weapons can be used longer. Putting points into damage will make life in the wild less easy than that into spirit but it will also make the weaker weapons or even the fists deadly. Alternatively, high spirit can be used to tame animals to support the cowboy so as to survive easier in the wilds. With high spirit wild animals except the random spawns become passive and making resource gathering easier.
